I have watched the William Klein documentary "The many lives of William Klein" a few times now and each time i am inspired by his work and his ways of working. He has had his work exhibited in numerous very popular art museums. He is best known for his street photography work across new york, although he has now moved on to doing a lot less projects but is experimenting with new ways to explore photography. The documentary looks at Klein's life and his was of working and his role in his exhibitions.

DURATION: 1 HOUR, 5 MINUTES
William Klein has lived many lives. One of the world's most influential photographers, he pioneered the art of street photography and created some of the most iconic fashion images of the 20th century. He also made over twenty films, including the first ever documentary about Muhammad Ali and a brilliant satire of the fashion world, Who Are You Polly Magoo?

ANOUK KRUITHOF

ANOUK KRUITHOF -

A popular up and coming photographer from the netherlands, she came and spoke about her practices and how she achieved what she has, then gave tips and answered question about her work. Kruithof is known for her creativeness she is going against the norm of photography, non of her books are bounded they are all just sheets that represent the messiness and business of life and the subject matter. Within her practices she documents everything she does using 'photo video'. She uses various colour to create symbolic references and to provoke emotions from her audience.

BECOMING blue
ANOUK KRUITHOF’S SERIES BECOMING BLUE COMPRISES 21 PORTRAITS AND THREE SPATIAL STILLS. THEY ARE PRESENTED IN DIFFERENT FORMATS AND REVEAL KRUITHOF’S HIGHLY EXCEPTIONAL APPROACH TO THE TOPIC OF PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY. DURING EXTENDED SESSIONS, WHICH ANOUK KRUITHOF CALLS ONE-TO-ONE PERFORMANCES SHE DID NOT USUALLY WORK BEHIND THE CAMERA BUT IN THE REST OF THE ROOM, FREQUENTLY PRESSING THE TRIGGER BY REMOTE CONTROL.
AT THE SAME TIME, SHE MADE CONSTANT BUT MINOR PHYSICAL INTERVENTIONS TO INFLUENCE THE PERSON BEING PORTRAYED, SO THAT HER PHOTOS CAPTURE THE SUBJECTS GESTURES AND FACIAL EXPRESSIONS INTERACTION TO THE UNKNOWN, IRRITATION OR STRESS. REACTIONS OUT OF THE BLUE. BLUE IS A COLOUR WE ASSOCIATE WITH INFINITY AND MEDITATIVE CALM BOTH IN ARTHISTORICAL AS AS IN PSYCHOLOGICAL MEANING.
THE POSES AND GESTURES OF THE PERSONS PORTRAYED OBVIOUSLY CONTRADICT SUCH ASSOCIATIONS – A STYLISTIC MEANS THAT KRUITHOF DELIBERATELY CHOOSES IN ORDER TO VISUALISE DIFFERENT EMOTIONAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL STATES DURING A PROCESS OF SURPRISE OR EVEN CONFRONTATION. KRUITHOF’S THINKING IN COLOR AND IN THE CHARACTERISTICS OF PICTURES IS THE CLEAREST EVIDENCE THAT, FOR ANOUK KRUITHOF, THE PROCESS OF ELABORATING THE PHOTOS IS NOT COINCIDENTAL OR DONE FOR ITS OWN SAKE, NOT AN EXPERIMENT OR TEST RUN, BUT A PROCEDURE CARRIED OUT IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE RULES OF BEAUTY, IN THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE CHARACTERISTICS OF AESTHETIC PERCEPTION – AND THUS ARTISTICALLY NECESSARY.
